Dear Colleagues,
This is with absolute pleasure that I as Secretary of Society of Nuclear Medicine India welcome you all to the 54th annual conference of the Society of Nuclear Medicine (SNMICON-2022). After two years of virtual conferences, finally the conference is happening in its usual and much missed format. I should not be embellishing by stating that All India institute of medical sciences, (AIIMS-New Delhi) is the best and centrally located place to hold this in person meeting.
I take this opportunity to appraise our members about the activities of the current executive body since we took office in March, 2022. We have been able to revive the MOUs with various international scientific societies i.e., SNMMI, EANM, IASNM. I consider myself exceptionally fortunate to represent on behalf of SNM-India and sign MOU's at SNMMI meeting held in June 2022 at Vancouver, Canada & EANM congress in Oct, 2022 at Barcelona, Spain. The outcome of these MOUs can be witnessed in this annual conference with President- SNMMI- Dr. Munir Ghesani & delegation from IASNM being part of the scientific program of SNMICON-2022 and this will go a long way in further strengthening our academic association with these international bodies.
This year, we have instituted a new research award- Alavi-Takalkar-Kumar Award in association with IASNM to promote Nuclear Medicine in India. Starting this year, this official award of SNMI would be given to three best papers to young nuclear medicine researchers with award money of 400$, 250$ & 150$ respectively. And it is our proud privilege that pioneer of nuclear medicine, Dr. Abass Alavi will grace the occasion and will be present personally to give away the award for the first time in New Delhi.
Having been through challenging years in pandemic, we were able to have in person meetings/ CMEs/conferences of the Northern, Eastern, Western & southern chapter of the society this year at New Delhi, Guwahati, Mumbai & Bengaluru respectively.
I have always been perpetrated to the upliftment of the fraternity of nuclear medicine and after persistent efforts we could get a personal hearing from the Union health minister of family health & welfare- Dr. Mansukh Mandaviya on various matters pertaining to nuclear medicine including- induction of nuclear medicine code in the Ayushman Bharat scheme, representation in the health council bill & designation of Nuclear medical physicist. He was very receptive and directed to give due credit to the fraternity.
Also, it gives me immense pleasure to divulge you that India has been chosen as the highlight country for the next year's SNMMI meeting to be held in Chicago, USA. I on behalf of the SNMI HQ request you to submit maximum abstract for this conference, so that we can showcase the great work we are doing in India at this prestigious international platform.
At the end, I would like to thank all the members of society for having faith in us & I am indebted to the entire Executive committee of SNM India their efforts & unconditional support. I am really excited meeting you all face to face and to being able to bring back the much-appreciated social aspect on conference days.
I wish the organizers an extremely successful SNMICON-2022!!
Jai Hind!

Dr. Ankit Watts
Secretary HQ- SNMI
