As we, the editorial team of Indian Journal of Nuclear Medicine (IJNM) completes 1-year after assuming the charge, it reflects on the year gone by and the tasks completed, the paths un-trodden, the goals and visions yet to be achieved.

It has been aptly said that the journey of 1000 miles begins with a single step. The Indian Journal of Nuclear Medicine an official journal of the Society of nuclear medicine (India) has a history of a long journey under the stalwarts and dedicated people involved in the field. Since its inception in year 1986, I am thankful to all my predecessors for putting in sincere and wonderful efforts in shaping the journal to its present state. However, there were few challenges being faced by the society that made the continuity of journal difficult.

A year ago, when I was given the responsibilities as the Editor-in-chief, the journal had some issues which needed immediate attention. When the editorial team took up the helm of affairs at Indian Journal of nuclear medicine; there was a long pending list of manuscripts for publication after evaluation and unwarranted delays in the printing of issues, resulting in a huge backlog of manuscripts submitted for evaluation. There was felt a need for a mission with a vision. Hence, the priority of the editorial team was to review the submitted manuscripts in a time bound manner and usher in transparency in the review process so as to inform the authors about the decisions of the Editorial Board. This was done to maintain the standard of the journal and meet the deadline for the quarterly publication of the journal. The financial position of the journal was also not very healthy, and we are trying hard to improve upon that.

Another thing, there were many members who have shifted from their informed address in past few years. Some of the addresses were incomplete or copies used come back with comments that addressee not found which resulted in wasteful expenditure. I tried to contact all of them with a request to supply their new addresses to deliver the copy of issues at right addresses. We have tried to update the list of members and corrections were made in preparing the list of SNM (I) members so the every issue of IJNM would be delivered to the right person. For this purpose, we would like to solicit your cooperation.

We also incorporated changes in the cover page and hope that everybody within and outside the fraternity has liked that. We are trying to make it a platform where the experienced nuclear medicine physicians share their work in the form of original and review articles, while new entrants may showcase their research work to the fraternity. It would be our endeavor to have more contribution of articles and readership from the country as well as from abroad. I am sure with the help of all the stakeholders, its acceptability would grow.

As we all know, the today's practice in nuclear medicine cannot be without the technology as both goes hand in hand. The industries have provided the cutting edge technologies for better imaging characteristics as well as support in bringing the issues of the journal. We can all appreciate that for last 1-year, the every issue has come before time in e-print as well as hard print formats.

I invite the suggestions from our esteemed and valued readers for the improvement of the journal which is the showpiece of developments and researches being taken place in the field of nuclear medicine in our country and abroad.

It is hard to believe that already one year has passed since I assumed my duties as Editor-in-Chief of the IJNM, and I am happy to report that the Journal is thriving. To conclude in the words of Ruth Westheimer "Our way is not soft grass; it's a mountain path with lots of rocks. However it goes upwards, forward, toward the Sun."
